The only way to stop the drug violence is to take away the incentive. Decriminalize and legalize drugs and treat them as a health problem, not a criminal problem. But we make way too much money by producing guns and bullets and those people purchase legislation.

Start holding manufacturers and distributors liable when a batch of weapons "mistakenly" finds its way onto the black market and into the hands of criminals. We know cartels and inner-city gangs are not making their own weapons.

Seriously, how are so many guns "lost" or "stolen" month after month and year after year?

Threaten the people higher up in the chain with real punishment and see what changes. Of course, you have to actually be willing to follow through with the threats. I say arm people who have had family members killed due to gun violence and let them go and collect the "upstanding" gun makers and distributors if their guns are found on the black market.

There are several scams to get weapons to drug cartels.

Straw man purchases: Where a person with a clean record buys for another person

Robbery: Many gangs rob as a means to finance themselves, not solely but one of many ways. When they find weapons they either sell them or use them

Fraud: A person who buys a gun then claims they were robbed and all their weapons were taken

Other countries: Russia, China, Africa, South America etc etc

Now the problem comes of proving that gun makers/maufacturers are actually criminally supplying cartels/gangs etc etc
